View Full Version : WE'VE NOW BANNED FREE EMAIL ACCOUNTS

Reason:
Some ex-HLCCL member who was banned has decided to try re-registering under different accounts. He has also sent a forged email to one of the admins stating a well respected forum member died.

All of you who use free email addresses at present are uneffected, but new members will require a real ISPs email address to sign up.

I hate to take this approach, so I dunno how long we'll keep it like this - certainly for a few weeks or so.

Sorry, but please appreciate that we do NOT condone people sending such sickening emails like that :(

Yes, Wildwayz has everyone on the leader team's support.

If you have a free email account like hotmail or MSN as your current email, you can keep it like WW says.

ISP mails (and the like) are infinitely superior, though.

Aye totally agree with this, on this occasion the person in question was stupid enough not to be able to conceal his identity fully but thats to say the next one will be as stupid so this gives us much better traceability.

If all forum members bear this in mind and mention this requirement for a proper email when they recommend the forums to other ppl this wull help the system run smoothly.

Most of the forums I read these days have banned anyone from using hotmail, yahoo etc style accounts. It stopped all the spam and a lot of the fake accounting (lol tis fake nicking all over again :P

I can add over 30,000 free email accounts to the ban list - but I haven't yet - only a few hundred.

He's been banned via IP (useless method) and his MSN email address. Then he used other free email addresses and got banned some more, then this email he sent an official.

tis fine by me - i always use my latest ISP addy cos I check it more often - I tend to only use hotmail for MSN and directing annoying spam to :)

I dunno how it goes in other countries but here in hollannd loads of real isps like tiscali or wanadoo offer free, easy to reg in 5 mins, accounts

Have you actually read my post?
It are normal isps that offer both payed , with extra options + free helpdesk and crap AND the free accounts, with less options

mail adresses are the same :)


Edit : And if they ARE banned, what about the people that pay for their (dsl) account and are ****ed now?

About 99% of all ISPs give out their own email account with their subscription.

What would u rather us do - not moderate this at all and get people signing up using fake addresses, or virtually anonymous addresses then cause trouble?

There MIGHT be the option where if someone is known, and trusted, we can add an account for them. (I think)

You can't say that without suggesting any alternatives. I'd love to hear any other method you have, as would many other companies that would pay for such technology.
