Hello,
I have a 1.4 athlon and which a friend bought and put together. The problem is it has switched itself off twice now due to overheating.I think the problem may be that the case i got with it is very small, and the power supply backs onto the heatsink and fan with very little space for the air to circulate.Could this stop the fan working due to not being enough space and cause the overheating??....i have taken the heat sink out and it is now balanced on the edge of the casewith the pc on it's side......Is this dangerous???..yes i don't have a clue but the fan now has alot of space to circulate the air and i can see if it stops working.......what case should i get if this is the problem??........thanx for any help..

you've probably got a mini tower case
you want a midi atx case really
you can get power supplys that have a bottom intake which removes all the hot air and a couple of case fans might help too

an Enermax power supply would probablly solve that

they have two fans one on the underside (drawing in air)

and the usuall one at the back

the new one has a cable connecting to the motherboard
which tells it the case temps and it adjusts the fan speed depending on temps

and a swith on the back for selecting the main fan speed

one of those should help a great deal
