Hi all,i posted a thread abit ago about my putie overheating. i thought it was the small case and the fact that the power supply was right over the fan and heatsink. After taking the power supply out and just seeing what the fan does i noticed that the fan sometimes dosn't spin at a regular rate..ie it slows down and then speeds up.........or stops (making a terrible racket as it does). So i replaced the fan and everything was dandy until that fan didn't start up when i switch on sometimes..........I checked the fan rate in bios and it when it is spinning correctly the rate displays weird letters and numbers like .;26. Please help cos it's drivin me crackers

Is it 2 dodgy fans or something on the motherboard, i have now tried it in all 3 fan slot thingies and it's still the same

What sorta heatsink is it?
Make sure the cable which goes from the fan to the mobo isn't damaged, and that its pushed in tight.
My advice is buy a nice NEW heatsink for about 25-30quid get yaself a really good one which will defo work.
As for your psu that could also be problem, because if it doesn't have enough power for say
HD
CD Rom
and other fans in case or even if u have 2 hd's and 2 cd roms
then it could loose power in places which could result in the fan slowing down because not enough power when everything needs to be started (when computer starts everything gets power sent to it in a burst).
hope any of that helps you

What size power supply? And pute details? Have you someone who you can nick their power supply to test it in your pute? It's prob not the fan/fans cos there aint much to wrong with em, try taking a few devices (cd-rom/floppy) off and running it then...

on an interesting note.
if you plug a replacement delta fan into your mobo fan power feeds u can burn them out thus making them a bit intermitent.
I would always use the 4 pin connectors and feed it directly from the powersupply if u havent already. Thats assuming u have a delta on your heatsink.
