Had mainly AMD systems for the last few years (cept for dell P4's bought for work) so not really up on all things pentium.
Bought a P4 mobo at PC world of all places the other day cos it seemed too cheap to be true (£55 for a P4S8X-X ) (http://www.asus.com/products/mb/socket478/p4s8x-x/overview.htm) so gonna build myself a P4 system.
Not into over overclocking or owt (working with putes for a job kinda puts u off fiddling with em at home as well, just wanna use it) so based on that a few questions.
Whats the best value P4 atm in terms of price/perfomance ?
Standard Retail HS/Fan or somert else ?
Cheapest place to buy em from ?
Cheers

I reckon the 2.53 m8
The extra money for the faster ones becomes dis-proportional, and my 2.53 is more than fast enough for what I need.

The 2.4 ghz is £130.
the 2.53 ghz is £150
the 2.66 ghz is £190
Make your choice sir. The 2.4 core is about maxed so no room for oclocking which you say u dont neeed anyway.

My 2.53 is currently at 3.06 ghz on spinky new cooler :E
The 2.4Bghz (533fsb), it's cheaper than the 2.53ghz with not much difference between them, 2.4B is the better buy in my eyes (and the one I'm getting also).
I'm buying mine from the scan todayonly section, getting a free coolermaster HSF with it for £133.

Some of the 2.4's don't have the good stepping though m8, and also some of the older chips are the 100mhz fsb.
I'd deffo go for the 2.53, but then i would say that caus i bought one i guess :E

3.15 ghz atm tho doesnt run prime95 ;-( ok for everything else inc dvd transcoding so not that bothered but not a true 100% stable clock I suppose.
That's the case with the 2.4A, but not the 2.4B though. Of course the 2.53 is better (slighty), but it's around £20 for the difference you'll not really notice.

I'm sure the extra 5% makes all the difference in the world :)

Went to the computer fair yesterday and came back with a 2.4 B ghz (533fsb) for £125 (he wanted £130 but i managed to knock him down a fiver with getting a new liteon cd writer off him as well).
Not got it up and running yet, never seen as many wires to connect in one case tbh ! Like the way the cpu, hs and fan go together though.
