PCI bus prob

Just built a new p4 system using the the new canterwood Abit IC7.

Got the prob with primary and secondary pci bus

yeh stick it in another slot, if u still get it just live with it, wont be of any importance :)

Sound Cards usually need an irq

and as far as i no only even numbered pci slots have irqs assigned to em

also abit released a lot of new bios this weekend

Lotta probs with this board atm still , don't wanna flash the bios just incase i need to send it back to OC.co.uk

1) windows will crash in under 10 mins with radeon 9700 in. tried loads of drivers , also chuck it in my old pc and had 0 probs.

2) hard drive transfer is stupidly slow as well as cd drive. HD is ata 100 and cd ata 33 which is normal i think so should be ok but nope . When the PC access either the CD drive or HD pretty much everything frezzes up.

3) every pci lot gives an error when my aureal a3d card is installed , c above.

any ideas other than flashing the bios would be greatly apprecieated

theres new Cat 3.4 drivers out for 9700 rav.. also i have a 9700pro and it indeed is more buggier than my Gf4 was (which..well wasnt buggy at all)

Bugs i have are:

Accessing control panel visually corrupts my cursor
some games dont run with 8xAA +16xAF
refresh rates are still under what my monitor can do
makes my monitor buz noisily
refresh of the screen is kinda wavey-can see it going up+down
some games will turn my monitor black if above 1024x768
PowerDVD will not run with Hardware Acceleration on (altho untested with cat 3.4)

well after around 40 hrs of pissing about i might have found the prob. Something called Apic which i ain't heard of until today , basically it extends the IRQ range from 15 to 24. Both Win me and 98 se were adding gfx cards , sound cards ect... to this virtual range which was killing the OS and for some reason this ain't documented within the manual and the only OS that can cope ok with these virtual IRQ's is XP.

Still not completly sure i have fixed it yet but hopefully , it ain't bsod yet so ... we'll c =)

ahh. yeh apic could be what is casuing the problem m8. hows the board running now? get tweaking :)

yeah sort of not reallly though i think i know what the prob is but don't know how to sort it.

I did a fresh install on WIn me then installed motherboard drivers followed by directx 9 rebooted nps os does not crash at all and everything seems fine. then i installed the gfx drivers and rebooted and the system starts crashing normally when the hd or cd is requested for an app or installing something.
