My pc suddenly powered off while playing HL :(

checked inside and the processor was mad hot.

Turned it back on and power management tool came up suggesting I adjust CPU to 1200mhz.

Is this the fan not working properly or something else.

Sounds like either the fan or the thermal transfer.

What Cpu, what speed, what fan, what mobo?

If your mobo supports it, then download MBM5 (motherboard Monitor) and it'll give you info on temps etc.

I dont know what mobo it is and the fan seems to be working. The CPU was 1800 (now 1200). just before it I got a 'hardware monitor found hardware problem' error after warm boot. After a cold bootup it seems ok. Its not like it constantly operates at too high a temp... it just went haywire for a while and reduced my CPU speed. I dont know if I need to replace fan or processor or maybe it could be a software error :(
