Combo drives are fine
The Plextor model happens to be very good.

Dilbert is saying that its worth having 2 drives though, and for that reason makes sense to have a CDRW and a DVD.

Required for disc to disc copying.

I personally have a Pioneer DV A05 DVD burner, and a Pioneer DVD rom.

Use the burner for all burning etc, and only use the DVD for playback of movies as I have locked it at R1 and my DVDr is at R2.

If you only want 1 drive, i'd recommend the Plextor, although i'm sure the Liteon are fine too.
DO NOT BUY PHILIPS ------ THEY ARE PANTS

cheers guys :)

I shall be investing in a lovely cheap pair of Liteon's to burn off all the lovely music I have recently downloaded off of some very kind-hearted souls ftp ;)

Liteons are good i have one in my 2nd machine cant fault em, but PLextors ooze quality imo. If you can get a plextor for same money as liteon id choose that.
Lgs are good , sonys seem ok. I agree with dale, philips are pants as are samsung imo, sold a few a got lots of probs with skipping music cds etc.

I recently aquired a Sony CDRW for 25 quid from Microdirect... Swore I'd never use em again but made two orders now 4-5PM and it's always here before lunch next day overnight from Mancs :

Found the liteons too noisy, was the 52x I had tho. Sony is much more quiet and don't notice speed difference personally. Only prolem was fitting my alu bezel which was tricky as it has a slightly curved tray.
