right followed superflys guide to the letter but i got prob where sound is cutting in and out, sometimes foot steps can't be heard or weps sounds.

After readinfg this

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/chris.day/au30dalfix.html

do i have to edit the au30dal.dll or is that what the patch is for ??

If i don;t have to edit the dll then what else could be the prob , the vortex control panel is slightly diff from win me/98 as there no option is disable eax reverb which used to cause a similar prob to this.

Also the number of vioces is diff on xp, think me/98 was over 520 or something but xp has got 320. Dunno if this makes any diff. ?

but i understood that the new tweaked a3dapii.dll had to be put into the hl folder so the game can close without HL hanging ???

thats what i have done & so long as i enter and exit HL with a3d disabled HL does not hang...

all though so far i have not got it sounding as good as on winME

think he might mean the orignal a3dapi.dll.

slinky the a3dapi.dll from the xp sdk pack which i guess ya using can been placed in either the windows\system32 folder or the hl folder does not really matter, as when ya enable a3d it'll first look in the hl folder and if not present then it'll check the system32 folder.

though my guide has a newer a3dapi.dll file that you should be using ;)
