Old pcs been dead about 2 weeks now.
What I want to know is apart from setting the hd jumper to slave is there anything else I would have to do?
I wanna install it insitu with my current hd i.e. as a slave but I wanna be able to access the data the old hd currently has.
O/S is win 98 se.
Asus a7v8x mobo
wd caviar 80GB IDE hd currently installed as master with no partitions.
old hd is a maxtor 40gb ide hd which had two partitions :C +D

Replaced the psu then 4 red lights came up on the mobo which meant either the cpu was damaged/inserted wrong or the lithium battery was dead.
replaced the battery and prob remains so if any1 has an athlon 950 processor or slower(old cartridge style) Ill pay em £5-10 +P&P ;)

tia Boris.

You can put the disc in without any problems, only confussion arrises when people maintain 2 primary partitions.
Will work fine, but screw up your drive assignments initially. This is because Windows will allocate first letters to primary partitions.

I'd suggest you install Partition Magic, and convert the second disc into an extended partition. You should be able to do this without formating, and without loosing data.
You will however be unable to boot the 98 OS without some heavy duty hacking of the boot loader and more importantly the primary partition, and even then i'm not sure it would work.

Just give it a go.... you can always take it out again :E
