question relating to os's

just have a question is all.....i want to know which would be better 'performance' wise....I have a P4 1.6, 768 ram, ATI Radeon 8500, Aureal sq2500......running XP atm...but i have the options of running: 98 se, me, 2k, xp pro.......i was told that doing a dual boot doesnt work good.....but i want the best performance out of this comp on HL....sometimes on XP the FPS drop and ive tried alot of things and still dont work :mad: any advice would help :[ plz help.....ta

Dual boot works fine.
Prolly said to you by someone who knows feck all m8.

I dual boot XP and WinME, using ME purely for HL.

Works a treat, and you'll get your solid 100 fps in HL, and all the windows goodness of XP.

You'll struggle to get max fps in XP as its very CPU intensive running in emulated mode (compatability etc) and there are services etc that take resource.

XP and ME dual boot- ME only for HL.

But tbh I don't know why I have XP still. Why do you have XP?

Do newer games also have the problem of high performance with XP?

I have no probs with any of the newer games, but they all use Direct 3D remember :)

Microsoft optimised code for XP :)
