I just bought my 2nd new heatsink and my pc still overheats. Always when I put the case cover back on. Could it be a problem with the fans being wrong way around in the power supply and not circulating the air properly.... cos I took my power supply apart after I dropped a screw in it and put the fans back but I think I put them the wrong way around :(

Would power supply fans being wrong way round cause this problem.

thanks :)

PSU fans blow out m8y,

How hot are you running? What CPU?

cheers shaft.

Temperature is around 60C with case cover off. A soon as I put cover back on the temp rises steadily until around 80c then shuts down.

I have replaced the heatsink and the fans rpm is ok so I think I have put the PSU fans back to front/wrong way round.

basically the psu has 2 fans.... one facing inside Computer and one facing outside. I am not sure which fan I might have put in wrongly :(

You've probably got the one on the bottom of your PSU blowing the hot air directly onto your HS.
Not good as the air out of the PSU is normally quite warm, lol.

make sure you got the heatsink properly contacting the cpu.
It might pay to remove it and apply a bit more thermal grease if u havent already.

psu fan: blows out of case
rear case fan/exhaust blower: blows out of case
front case fans: blows into case
heatsink fan: sucks off heatsink/cpu

also make sure the heatsink is TIGHT on the cpu and seated right.. plus u have used some heatsink compound on the chip core when u put the heatsink on.

also check they're actually turning ;)

U sure about the heatsink fan?
Mine blows onto the HS.

it can vary depending on the type of heatsink/fan it is.. but 8 out of 10 ones do suck rather than blow ;)

side mounted fans always blow on..
and most top mounted ones suck - whats better? blowing hot air onto the chip, or sucking the hot air away? :)

Well, I have a blowhole in the side of my base sucking cool air in right above my heatsink.
And the fan came this way anyway, lol

heat sink fans should be blowing onto your heat sink not away

listen to the fly, he's got the patience to answer your troubles, tbh I'm usually drunk plus I've given up on hardware posts, it seems like all i do on these forums. Blow suck blow, it's all pretty gay bar to me.
