Supa, i followed all ya steps to get a3d runnin under xp. It seems to work... hl doesnt crash. But I'm very disapointed with the quality of the sound. It gets cranky and i keep missin sounds. Ya just cant compare it with the quality ya get under w98 with vortex chipsets. (although i never reinstalled hl, i just backed-up and restored my sierra folder)

My specs:
ASUS A7V-266-E DDR (via chipset)
Sq2500
Gf3 ti200

Question to all that got a3d runnin under xp. Is the soundquality you get equal to that under w98 ? Is it cranky ? Pls help me out :) or give some extra tips if you got good quality.

the sound quality is perfect under xp. tbh better than my winME installation ages ago.

the guide is solely designed for vortex2 chipsets (im not sure if the sq2500 is :confused: )

if you havent goto www.vortexofsound.com and try their latest xp drivers

i cant suggest much as ive NEVER had any weird sound probs with it (apart from when i reinstalled at the lan my a3d was crap but that was found to be sum dodgy cfg i was trying :) lol)

Thnx for the quick reply Supa. Its deffo a vortex 2.0 card (1 of the if not the best 2.0 card)

If followed all your steps in the important a3d setup thread. every single detail. No crashes... but it sounds distorted. Could ya give me some more info on the AC97 controll panel. U use all defaults ?
What soundcard r you usin ?
If u say it works 100% i will keep tryin untill i die so bare with meh ;)

Just followed ya instructions. Didnt read em to well at first so had to format hehe. Man, hl runs fast on this os.

makes me laugh how many people say 'xps crap' 'hl plays crap on it' etc.. when all it takes is a few tweaks to make it run shwwweeeet!

You ever saw/heard a3d in action runnin w98 Supa ?

i had it on winME for about 5mins... then ME crashed about 10mins after installing the crappy os so i thought bog off and went back to 2k for a while, til i braved xp

i then found xp has some a3d drivers and started trying to find tweaks ;)

I challenge ya to make a ghost image of current os (xp) And install a fresh copy of 98 (not ME cuz that totally sux0rs)...install the 98 drivers and listen. Just to get an idea off the difference in sound that i do notice. Really.. try it and judge ;)

mom!! if you havent already... try this m8 and see how u like the sound :)

open ur control panel... goto ac97 controls
set all bars to 3-5 (im on 3 atm but its a bit loud, maybe 4 or 5)
and enable sigmatel st9704 attenuation.

restart and see what u think

i think my a3d has gone from oki.. to absolutely crystal, omg its perfect, clear sound :D

you've probably already done it.. but i thought id share that with u ;)
