Finally getting a gig of DDR 400 next week

Was considering a sempron - as one being sold cheap - a 2400 @ 1.6ghz

My 1600+ xp chip runs at 1.4 gig - if I upp the fsb on the pute which one will be faster - the 1600 with the extra cache or the sempron with the 333fsb?

:P

Technically the sempron should be faster, since cache etc is taken into consideration with the rating...however, before putting a 333mhz FSB Sempron in, you might want to check that your board can take it...because most boards of the 1600+ era won't recognise a 333mhz chip properly, running it at 266mhz fsb instead, resulting in probably a slower clock speed than the 1600+, or at very least, identical...

Remember, its the ratings that matter with AMD, a chip rated at 1.6ghz, but 2400 should be roughly 800mhz faster than the 1600+ @ 1.4 :)

Nah the board will take the 333 fsb - with a bios flash it should go up to 400 ;)

The sempron runs at 1.67 I think and my current chip at about 1.4 - for the money I might as well go with the sempron - for the money is worth it especially if I can upp the fsb :D

Ta for reply!

How much is it?

Cos it might honestly be worth getting an XP-M 2500+ (overclockers) for £60, and ragging the pants off it...i run mine at 2.3 on air, with an aero 7 on low, pretty quite, and not hot in the slightest (34c atm, great for an overclocked athlon tbh)

Nay problems :)

20 quid - I was gonna go for the 2500 M but might as well save and get an athlon 64 when I got the cash :E

Unless RV coming to the LAN and wants to sell me his 2500 ;)
