Computer:
-AMD64 3000+ 0.09µ (9*200Mhz)
-Gigabyte K8NF-9 Nforce x4
-Corsair CMX PC4000 2x512Mo
*Timing@250Mhz : 3.4.4.10
*Timing@200Mhz : 3.3.3.8
-ABIT Radeon X700Pro 256GDDR3
*Core 425Mhz
*Memory 432Mhz

OS : Win2k/sp4

1st Bench:
18700 on 3DMark2001
2900 on 3DMark2005

Overclocking :

STEP1 : O/C the GPU : 425/432@440/530

The maximum values stated by "ATI tray tools" is
Core/Memory 472Mhz/556Mhz
After 2 Crash @ 465/530 and 450/520 , I stabilised @
440Mhz/530Mhz.

STEP2 : O/C the CPU : 1.8@2Ghz

in Abit's utility i pushed the FSB to 220Mhz to reach
2Ghz(9x220Mhz)
I left default Ram timing 3.3.3.8

At this point i dont want mess with the CPU, got the fan provided by AMD.

2nd Bench:
20900 on 3Dmark2001
3100 on 3Dmark2005

Notes:
-Bought the CMX PC4000 at low price (150€ for the 2)
otherwise i was considering TWINX due to Dual channel mod and
because AMD64 CPUs are memory latency dependant.

Questions : i was wondering what if i was using Memory with lower latency (2-x-x-x)? Noticable difference in benchs?

better to run at high frequency and get extra bandwidth,

i just upgraded from XP2000+ - Radeon 8500le
to this and after 2weeks of gaming ,its a little deception, not
enough powerful to run confortably all latest games.

To give you an idea : per example when i use "auto detection
graphics settings" in FARCRY , it enable only low profile. With this computer Farcry is playable between Low-Standard settings.

Actually i'm running at default clock for the GPU and 1.8@2GHz for
the CPU.

Well waiting and sharing some money.

Difference between cas 2 and 3 is between 1-5 %, which is fok all really and certainly not worth the upgrade if you are thinking about it.

The winnies run cool so I think you could push that chip a lot further even with default cooler.

Stop using software overclocking utills and do everything from the bios.

http://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v238.exe Use prime95 to test for stability(blend pref)

You might want to check that giga board has working locks on the bios revision you are using, otherwise it'll shag ya windows install. The nf4 chipset does support it,but wether giga implemented it is another thing.

By the sound of it it does though being you have tested @ 220fsb.

Lock agp/pci @ 66/33
set ram/fsb(htt) @ something like 5:3 to stop the ram getting in the way or winnies mem controller.
Drop the htt multi to 3 or 4, don't go over 250 fsb/htt at 4.
Start upping the fsb/htt and run prime. Once prime starts failing you'll need to up the vcore voltage.

Once ya found the max the core will do you can drop the ram back into a 1:1. Probably need to up the vdimm voltage at this point also.

You should be aimming for about 2.5ghz.

Notes :
-On my mobo there isnt a ratio selection, neither i found a PCI lock.Because all seem to be automated, i lock the ram frequency(200,166,133) to enable the desynchro mode otherwise its on synchro mode.
-My bios got a bug on HTT which limit it to 800Mhz.I locked the HTT multi to x3.
-CPU/RAM voltage AUTO, each time i overclocked the CPU voltage is @ 1.64V

So after differents settings/overclocking i reached these limits :

1/ Ratio 1:1 --> Synchronuous mode (15% better then Desynschro mode?)

CPU voltage AUTO
CPU frequency : 250Mhz
RAM voltage AUTO
RAM frequency AUTO =>Synchro mode
HTT : (x3)

FSB/RAM/HTT : 250/250/3*250=750Mhz
CPU : 9x250 = 2.25Ghz
==>CPUMark 266

2/ Auto-Ratio

With Default Fan, peeps reach 2.4-2.5Ghz for this CPU
So like others i want to reach 2.5Ghz(CPU)/9(CPUClock) = 277.77Mhz(FSB)
so i need a FSB of 277.77Mhz = lets round it to 270Mhz

CPU voltage AUTO
CPU frequency : 270Mhz
RAM voltage AUTO
RAM frequency : locked to 200Mhz=>Desynchro mode
HTT : (x3)

After boot i controlled the RAM was at 221Mhz so a ratio of 5:4

FSB/RAM/HTT : 270/221/3*270=810Mhz
CPU : 9x270 = 2.43Ghz
==>CPUMark 285

3/Something interesting happened yesterday night, i forgot to lock the RAM frequency so i booted on synchro mode with FSB/RAM@270Mhz ..................and it booted!!! Crashed only after 3-4 hours of FARCRY.
Today i'm running on Synchro mode 270:270Mhz, i just modified the RAM settings from 3.3.3.8==>3.4.4.10.

Conclusion :

I think i can grap some extra FPs if i play with the voltage but i'm not confident, i have a noname PSU 400W and i think that's enough :

I started with AMD64 3000+ / 1Go PC4000 , and today i'm like an AMD64 3800+ / 1Go PC4300. :naughty:

Remains the X700pro, weakest point of my config.Waiting for somes PCIE cards now.

Thx and Signed.

is that how poor the x700's are?

i would have thought they would be at least on a par with the 6800NU or LE's?

especially with 256 of DDR3

also my p4 is clocked from 3.0 to 3.2, could get 3.4 or 3.6 easy enuff
but all i change is the FSB, is this correct?
or do i need to tinker in other departments?

i say i can get 3.6, but it runs v hot at that, damned prescotts!

You can't compare x700pro to 6800 series.
x700pro is in same category then 6600GT.Its weaker then the 6600GT but the difference is not important because the 2 GPU goes around 3000(x700pro-6600GT)-3500pts(few 6600GT) in 3dmark2005.
For the 256Mo , its allowed for Textures in Gaming , and only Doom3 use 256Mo of texture? all i know 128Mo of texture is enough on the games actually.Well its 256Mo of GDDR3 so a little bit quicker then the 6600GT rams, but that's all.

For GPU i make the difference by the number of pipelines because i hate manufacturers selling 2 different products where the difference is just a ram/memory overclocking.

-High class GPU : 16pipes (400euros and above)
-High-Middle class GPU: 12 pipes(u have tweakable GPU going from 12->16pipes with patch)
-Middle-Low GPU : 8(x700pro;6600GT)-6pipes (200euros and lower)

You are cumfortable with ur P4@3.2 i don't think its worth to
overclock for 200Mhz.IF u get higher temps ur fans get higher speeds so the noise.
On how to overclock it------->Raaaavvvvvvvvv!!!!

Because in my case i'm not a real core overclocker, its just that i noticed
and pointed that last AMD64 is easily overclockable at default or i prefer say that all Winchesters are underclocked.

For me the noise from Fans and the HDD speed became more important
then the Power of my CPU+GPU,so my attempt of overclocking will be around noise and HDD .
But i'm still amazed to reach 2.5Ghz from 1.8Ghz and some peeps reach 2.8Ghz with better fan(XP120-7700).--->How are you Mr.Intel?

gettin a strange problem now

when i try to go over 3.2 too 3.4 or above in bios the pute juss wont start and i have to retry a few times to get back to bios and reset it?

if i try it thro the core centre software it juss resarts my computer when applied?

wat is it?
