That's what you all are!! Anyway for the past three years I have stopped drinking in February and done something else 'healthy. Monday February 4th 2002 I gave up smoking, so can't so that again.
This year I am going to do something a bit different and not give up drinking! Well, not totally, I am going to stop drinking wine in Feb. As this makes up about 90% of my alcohol intake then it ain't to bad. i will also get out, dust down and contemplate for long periods, my Concept 2 rowing machine that I bought at great expense about 3 years ago. If I get beyond the contemplation stage I may actually start rowing again. Two years ago I got up to rowing 10Km a day (for those who have ever used a rowing machine - the 10Km was done at an average 500m split of 1m 57s). Anyway, I don't intend to get back to 10Km becuase it is so fu*cking boring but I do intend to get up to about 7.5Km a day at under 2 minutes splits for 500m. To show I can be as anal as Dilbert and the rest of you, I might even treat you all to regular graphs showing my progression to my goal. Arn't you all lucky!
p.s. last time I got fit I put weight on so i view this as a getting fit attempt, not a weight lose attempt.

Agreed m8ty, I can manage sub 2 min 500's but not for that length of time ! Mind you he is a ****ing huge lump of a fella I suppose.... i feel sorry for the rowing machine with him thrashing up and down on it !
Sam for someone like you who is just generally massive all over (and thus quite possibly has a larger cardio system than someone of normal proportions for your height) I would say the waist hip ratio measurement is a better guide as to how much excess flab your carrying than the BMI will ever be.
Measure your waist just below your belly button and measure your hips round the largest section of your arse and then divide the waist measurement by the hip measurement.
A ratio of less than 0.95 for men is proven to put you at less risk of coronary heart disease.
dear god as if they make a tape measure that long or brave.

Just to add my own personal update, I'm now completing 2km row in 8m48s which is a 500m split time of 2:12 - not bad for an unfit slimline smoker :)

pull yourself together. Your not even half as unfit as I am. Aim for sub 2 mins per 500m. As i will get drunk tonight I am tempted to row tonight instead of tomorrow. 1750m for my next row. May be leave it until Thursday
please dont post a pic of your jock strap again

best time so far is 8m20s for 2km - my rowing is done after 20 mins on the cross-trainer tho so I'm already a bit tired when I start (lame excuse over :E)

not bad - that is 2m 05s pace for 500m splits. I did my first 2km row on Wednesday and had a minor set back half way through (i.e. I had to stop - heavy cold is my excuse!!). just comp[leted my first 2000m (at under 2mins/500m) did 1.59.6 average 500m splits so feeling just a little nakered.
