Hi all, been having this major problem now that I'm at university, be grateful for any help you can provide! :)
At Uni we have to connect through a simple non-encrypted HTTP proxy server to access the net.
I understand that Steam has a lot of problems anyway with proxy servers (namely required ports being blocked etc), but I'm sure that there must be some other people in my situation here? Even irc is blocked, although I've been able to get it to work by setting up an http tunnel.
The programs i've been using so far to try to get around the proxy system are:
Freecap (http://www.freecap.ru/eng/?p=whatis)
- Appears quite useful, although i'm not completely sure how to configure it to work for steam.
Hopster (http://www.hopster.com/)
- Only used initially for connecting irc, due to 4KBps speed cap.
I've also noticed (but not tried yet) Secure Tunnel (http://www.secure-tunnel.com/)
Ideas i've also considered involve setting up a proxy running on my home PC then connecting through that, or a similar system using Symantec PcAnywhere.
Any ideas? :(
