I had two hd's on my main PC.
The Priamry Slave made some very strange high pitched noises, windows came to a halt.. Now all it does is make a noise
ka chunk whirrr ka chunk whirr...........
Does this mean its ****ed?

Usually a
Ker chunk is not a good sign =*(
Basically need to know these things
does drive boot up at all? Or does it just not do anything when u turn on computer like just plain black screen.
If its not even making the monitor turn on then its ****led =*(
So just get onto who ever sold u it and get them to replace it, IBM deskstar have a 3 year warrenty, or on some models a 5 year warrenty. So you will be able to go to the IBM website and check if your not sure if its still in warrenty.
also while you are there pick up the Disk Drive utility from the files section. Its called like Drive test and its very good for sorting out problems on HD. But if ya can't even boot it up into bios then no point in getting it

i sent ibm my deskstar back 5 weeks ago for relacment...
phoned 3 days ago and the guy said it would be a while cos ibm have taken back all of that range and a new lot is being made up to replace peeps fecked hd's...
he told meh they have had 65% of the gx 40, 60, and 80 gig hd's back... the new gx120 seems to be ok.... see if you can get it rma back to ibm...

Ive lost count of the times I read posts on here and Overclockers. When peeps post about HDD woes its almost 99% sure to be an IBM.

Get the maxtor D740X ATA133 drives m8. Either 60 or 80 gig versions are awesome.
I too am never buying IBM again.
