Hi Guys i know its early but the feedback i get is early planning is best.

Just at the discussion stage atm but ive got a few options, if were gonna go the usual bank holiday weekend we need to plan early i suggest.

1 Belfry. Good location, good venue seems a good choice.
http://www.golfbreaks.com/golf/england/the-belfry/

2 Woodhall Spa, super course voted best parkland course in uk.
Accomadation might be a problem but theres a few options.

http://www.woodhallspagolf.com/accommodation/

3 Belton Woods Venue of 2004 hlccl.

4 Druids Glenn. Ireland, 30 mins south of Dublin. Good venue but cost and travelling might be a headache.

Any Feedback guys lemme know. Also shall we try and play a round on the Sunday or are we happy nursing hangover and setting back home.

1 2 or 3 sounds good to me.
I just have a few concerns about travel requiring a flight etc for such a short trip.
You only need a delay to spoil the weekend, and with people travelling from all over, it means loads of different flights, or some still have a long drive just to get to airport.

Open to anything though.

Good job as usual Fraggoire

I think option 4 is gonna be too pricey £385 for digs and golf, without flight costs. So maybe scratch that one.

Woodhall spa does a house for 4 peeps to share self catering, they have 2 house so that would do for 8 of us, it works out around £190 inc 4 rounds of golf for 3 nights, that might be a diffrent idea if we want some more golf.

As Dale has already said, whenever yah introduce flights into a short break (especially when its numerous ones from different airports) its a recipe for problems, had first hand experience of this on a couple of stag do's this year, although not major delays they have still disrupted plans..... and even short flights = mucho time wasted due to faffing around at either end.

Any course is fine with me and Belfry does look very nice...... but either of the 2 venues we have used over the last 2 years is also fine with me as they were both great venues. Just one concern (mainly for me) at the Belfy is that it says on teh website that Handicap certs are required for the 2 main courses.

Whatever yah decide though m8 I am deffo up for HLCCL 2006 and from the way he raves about the last one I am sure my mate "Ajay" would be as well

Main thing for me is to get a date in the Diary for it ASAP cos I am signing up to a few runs already for next year and the Mrs has already fixed a few dates for other things as well so getting an unmoveable date in there ASAP is main priority for me.

Ok m8 we normally do the bank holiday may weekend, which will be friday 26th May 2006, im sure well be working on that weekend wherever we go.

Any of the options is ok by me. Long as I get lotsa notice, cos of hols, it will be np. BTW you may get quite a few this year. I know Cleg would like to come. Hes a bit concerend cos hes a begginer, but i told him thats np. Smae applies though as it does with Dilbs he dont have a handicap cert. We may even get 3 four balls if everyone comes. Cheers for going to the trouble to sort it out Fraggy.

Cleg will be fine, the fact he calls himself a beginner means he at least plays which puts him several steps in front of me ...... my clubs come out once a year for this event and thats their lot :)

Although make sure Eddz is in the foreball in front of me and my shots will be fine ... so long as he is stood in the right place :E

Eddz youll be safe on the fairway im sure.

The belfry is gonna be around £439 for a 2 night stay making it daft tbh, they also do a sunday saver at £149, so i think well maybe try that later in the year.

Golf breaks have suggested one or 2 other venues which ill look at and post asap.

Your having a laff tbh, the last of us got to bed at 6am last year and I dont think any of us were in a fit state to play golf on the Sunday, dont think my poor hands could have taken another round either !!

Eddz youll be safe on the fairway im sure.

Hard to argue with that matey :) but I nearly had him last year a couple of times so will be trying my best next year..... yah up for a boxing rematch on the saturday night btw ? :E

Yep as long as it doesnt involve you kicking in the plums at pull swing. I didnt mind the swelling but the pain was uncomfortable.

This one comes highly recommended, from the guy at Golfbreaks who recommended Arden. Doesnt look bad money either tbh.

Right guys woodhall and most others fall down on facilities, its viewed my most including myself that the leisure facilities and food etc are as important as the standard of golf course. SO the frontrunner is a return to Belton Woods, if anyone can put forward another venue in the sub £300 price bracket we will look at it.

I think we may do a sunday save trip to belfry later in year for around the £149 price budget, which seems more sense that paying £500 to go there for 2 nights.

Let me know what you think and well get some firm commitments and get it booked.

Belton Woods again is fine by me matey, was a lovely place.

http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=16

Some details on the course, it looks superb, maybe best inland course in britain. My concerns are that it might be tough for the higher handicappers. And the there doesnt seem to be a health club. So maybe were sacrificing non golfing activities for golfing ones, but i guess we spend most of the weekend on the course.
Our home course is affiliated to the english golf union and woodhall owned by the egu, so maybe some discount could be obtained.

Strange chap.

Getting some prices on Woodhall Spa thro a company that does packages for it.
They have a self catering house/houses that hold up to 8 people, including 3 nights and 4 rounds of golf is around £200 which is great value, but i feel that we like a nicer venue than an old house.
So well see what comes up.
Forest pines is aropund 50 miles from woodhall so that rules out a staying there and playing at woodhall.
Forest pines only has 27 holes so unsure if that will provide enough of a golfing challenge to me.

Kingfrag
04-11-2005, 01:18 PM
Ive spoken to Woodhall and obtained a costing for the Green fees.
For 1 round on the Hotchkin (the best course) on the friday.
Then 1 round on the Bracken on the sat morning then a round on the afternoon on the Hotchkin would be £150.
SO that leaves a budget or around £100 per person for the Digs and food.
Im told there isnt any accomadation which has facilities were are used to within 25 miles. So we may have to sacrifice health club etc for the golf course.
How does everyone feel about this??

Course details can be found here
http://www.woodhallspagolf.com/

Dalehead
04-11-2005, 01:58 PM
Personally I think the facilities are as important as the course.
I'd rather arrive at one place on Friday, and not have to go back to the car at all.

A swim and a Sauna is a great way to forget a gross 88 :)

Kingfrag
04-11-2005, 04:54 PM
Yeah i tend to agree. Maybe well look again. Forest pines looks nice but its 250 miles from Bournemouth, that might be a problem to the southern pikeys.

Mad Mick
05-11-2005, 11:21 AM
Yeh u cant beat a nice hotel and facilities. Specialy if your a crap golfer. Thats I'll I've got to look forward to. Perhaps we can see if theres an old folks home nearby?
I'd get free admission. :)

Kingfrag
05-11-2005, 07:20 PM
I think we have a shortlist of about 4 courses.

1 Belton Woods. Good points 2 good courses, and good facilities. Bad points. Weve been before.
2 Forest Pines. 27 holes facilities look good as does course. Bad points 250 miles from Bournemouth.
3 Forest of Arden. 1 very good course. Bad points. We went twice last year.
4 Breadsall priory. 2 courses, facilities look good. Marriot hotels usually nice. Not sure how good the courses are.

Dilbert
06-11-2005, 01:27 PM
Happy to go back to either of the courses we have visited before (theres a couple of bunkers I missed) totally agree with what Dale said about facilities and in particular the driving, for those of us that drive quite a bit as a result of work its nice to go somewhere and then forget about the car until we leave ..... obviously that dont include Golf buggies though :-)

CleG
06-11-2005, 03:25 PM
Do all the places have buggies as they do make having a few rounds a lot easier for us higher handicapers :)

plus watching Dilbs vids from last year more fun as well.

Kingfrag
06-11-2005, 07:31 PM
Eddz and merv what do you lads feel about forest pines. Is it too far to travel would you prefer Belton Woods??
Im happy with either.

KIAMERV
06-11-2005, 11:09 PM
Ideally i would prefer to play somewhere we havent been before, Forest Pines looks good to me and i dont think the distance would be a problem, it is nice staying somewhere with good facilities and food.

It would be nice to get a few guys to Woodhall Spa for a game sometime next year though.

Kingfrag
07-11-2005, 09:56 AM
Yeah maybe we could do woodhall with a smaller group later in the year.
Ok ill look in to prices for Forest pines and check availability etc. Looks like that one could be the favourite.

Mad Mick
07-11-2005, 11:10 AM
I would forget Breadsall. Very nice place, but one of the courses is a bit Micky Mouse. Par 4's that even I can drive, and food not too good either.
Forest Pines OK by me.

Kingfrag
07-11-2005, 11:14 AM
Okies Golfbreaks.com are doing forest pines, it will be £299 for the package we normally do which is arrive friday 1 round of golf, 2 rounds on saturday breakfast and dinners included of course.

I dont love Cleg, I prefer rubber dolls to men.
I dont wanna look like him. After all if it aint broke it dont need fixin. :)
Bit of a typo about SUFC. Should read SWFC. Commonly goes with pork, and it aint apple sauce.

Sorry Fraggy I am genuinely not trying to piss you off as I was looking forward to this loads, especaily meeting with Dilbs and Eddz again and the others like you I havnt met yet, it even inspired me to get of my arse and join the local club to get a handicap.
