Hi,

I am using the MX1000 a few months now and there is a problem i could not resolve so far - I wanted to know if anyone has made the same experiences and if anyone could find a solution.
The problem is, I can`t use it over an USB port. If I try, this is what happens:

- The mouse "crashes", meaning the cursors won`t move anymore. There is always a "clong" sound coming in the moment of the crash, which is the windows sound for "hardware deactivated" (same as if you plug out an USB stick for ex.)
- Mostly it helps to plug the mouse out and in again, then it is working for some time again.
- Sometimes only rebooting will help
- Then again, a few times nothing will help, except reinstalling all drivers. This occured a few times when I had just installed the mouse - it crashed and would not come back to life again (not with plug out / plug in and not with reboot). I had to reinstall the mouse then it worked (for some time at least).

Now I reported all this to logitech, with no result, they just said update your drivers.
I have updated every driver possible, including the USB host drivers and motherboard drivers. No effect of course. When I was telling them the updates have had no effect, they said my mouse would be broken. This is also (almost) impossible, because, this is the second mouse I try (I sent it back once).

The only idea I have, is buying a seperate USB-card for a PCI slot and running the mouse over one of the USB-card`s USB slots. This solution worked on my brother`s PC when he was having very similar problems with an USB printer.

Any similar experiences, any ideas ?

greets,
deck

FFS same exact problem here for me, except it is for I have a Razer mouse. No idea how to fix yet.

Well as I said, my bro had a very similar prob with a printer. It seems to be something related to USB devices in general, not to one special device.

And let me add: The possibility that the USB port is broken also is very small, since you have 4 different ports to try and the thing is the same on all of them. At the same time other devices do work well on the same ports (in my case as well as in my brothers case)..

This is some unknown hardware bug which seems to be coming with some motherboard / usb-device combinations...

As I said, buying USB-card for PCI slot may help...

have you tried unplugging all of your other USB devices to see if that cures the problem? could be that the current drain is too high and is causing this problem.

Sorry, i aint read all of you post. :)

Yes that was one of the first things to try.
I really tried everything possible.

Yes it is working.
Also, I have reinstalled the USB host drivers, even installed some 3rd party USB drivers to try - no change.
Concerning the driver issue I really tried all stuff possible, everything is updated (including motherboard drivers etc)

Also I have to mention: The reason to start this thread was, that I had found quite a lot of similar reports all over the web, with the exactly same problem, mostly with MX1000 or other mice. So it really seems to be some unknown bug occuring on some systems.. thought perhaps anyone had found out sth I didn`t know so far.

Have you checked the USB speed/version of both? do you have a big enough PSU in ur PC? could be suffering from a lack of power - USB is the first to go.

Voltage regulator on the Mother Board is going BAD. This is the conclusion that I have come to.

Well the USB version is of course 2.0, which is required by the mouse too. I do not think that there are different versions of 2.0 , are there ? (and if so, they still would have to work together I would think)

The idea with the power supply seems to be the most logical perhaps. How did you verify your conclusion Chief ? (did you measure voltage or anything ?) Now I wonder, if this would be the problem, would it help to remove some stuff from the PC and then try again - or why should a PCI USB controller card help then?
Perhaps its more likely that the PSU is simply fluctuating, not producing constant voltage... (then again, does a PCI USB card help ?)
