I have recently bought a Western Digital 250 gig h/d, i started to do the format thing blah blah blah and found it to be showing that its only 131 gig.

So, fair enough, i tried it in my server machine, hmmm, same problem. Checked on the ASUS webby for an updated BIOS flash but i couldn't find anything that relates to this problem..

I hope the drive isn't faulty cus i haven't played any online games for nearly 2 weeks now! :(
If i have to send it back then so be it. But, before i do, does anyone have any clues or has anyone had this problem before? maybe its something simple that can be done from in winXP?

tia

EDIT: M/board is an ASUS A8V Deluxe.

That must be a well old version of Windows XP your running m8ty cos it sounds like the 48 bit LBA issue where windows 2000 (upto SP2) and Windows XP (no SP) would only recognise drives upto 137gig

Long winded explanation of it here but the short version is get SP1 or 2

Thats what it sounds lke anyway m8

That is before i have even done the install m8, would the version of XP make such a difference even if its just doing a format?

Should i just do the install anyway and then install sp1 or 2?

Yes it would, if you deffo know your running XP without SP1 then I would say thats pretty conclusive that its the LBA issue.

I would make a nice 10-20gig partition for windows, wang it on there, patch upto SP2 and then when it can see the rest of teh disk sort that as a data partition. Its ages since I have installed anything less than SP1 or 2 but I am sure thats what I have done previously.
