Looking forward to our golf weekend at Bournemouth next weekend. Looks like the boys have some mouth watering courses for us to play.
However one bone of contention that always rears its head is handicaps. Should we play 3/4 or full allowance. My argument has always been that your handicap is based on a singles score and not on a team handicap.
Ive trawled the net and the common word seems to be that For better ball 3/4 is the correct allowance.
Heres a link, theres plenty more like it.

Yeah i agree Fraggy, it should be based on 3/4 difference, thats the way it normally works, but i dont think it would make much difference either way to be honest because Luggs and you get more shots from me with full allowance than you would do with 3/4, and it wouldnt make any difference to Eddz cos he plays off 18 when we play and officially his handicap would be 28, and on the courses we will be playing on, he would struggle to play to that. (no offence eddz!).
And dont give me that 'max 18' rubbish cos thats just for open days to avoid bandits turning up and winning the prizes, and we all know Eddz aint a bandit. (no offence again eddz!)

Eddz seems to suggest in our recent conversations that 18 is a realistic handicap for himself, and while i wouldnt always bet on him in a medal comp off 18, i would expect him to get a good stableford score. His Handicap is Either 18 or 20 maybe we should meet half way and give him 19. But i think 3/4 is the norm. Especially when your paring him with a near scratch golfer. His contributions are a birdie here and there with a shot, and a few pars with a shot.

Sigh.

we'll play off whatever you want us to.

if you want me to go post an official handicap i can do that also, but if its below 25 I'd be surprised.

My problem is i blob far too many holes, in a medal game i would simply not post under 90 very often, in fact normally i post between 90 and 100 on nearly every round at Meyrick.

Leave it with you guys to discuss and decide, my official handicap right now is 20, giving 3/4 will mean 1 thing only, that on Par 3s I wont get a shot, giving you back that advantage I had in previous matches, You off 7 will lose only 1 shot, luggs will lose 1 and merv will lose 1 and I will lose 5.

If you think thats a fairer match then so be it.

Okies after working this out.

Frag your suggesting that if I get this right....

Andy gets 0 shots (hes off 3)
Luggs gets 2 shots (3 vs 5)
You get 3 Shots (3 vs 7)
I get 11 Shots (3 v 18)

.......

Whilst this may be the "official gods given way" of playing, it will make for a totally unenjoyable game, and from what I see a fairly one sided game.

Getting 11 shots, means I would hardly score on any holes (the courses we are playing are hard, my real handicap is probably in the 20s if i was forced to post medal scores, and teh std scratch is probably over par on the courses we are playing)), lessening my involvement quite considerably, and my enjoyment.

If you feel we won the last 2 based on handicap fair enough, i maintain it was because you and luggsy were not playing enough and in shocking form.

I dont mind finding a medium, but i am paying 300 quid for this weekend, and above all I just want to enjoy it, hardly being involved in the competition at all, not posting scores except for the occasional net par maybe even a net birdy, will mean id might aswell not even be there, itll be fk all fun for me. I,m not up for that at all.

eddz = bandit, he'll be using r_drawshadows "0" to turn of shadows whilst putting. I've seen him do it.

I totally agree we should play 3/4 handicap but we are gonna have to decide on a handicap for Eddz cos 18 (or 19) is unrealistic, in all the HLCCL comps there has been i dont think i have seen Eddz get more than 30 stableford points, and Eddz's handicap would be 28 without doubt if he was a member of a club. Handicap is based on 18 holes, not how good anyone is for 6 holes or who someone is paired with etc. if we are playing those rules then surely i must be due a few more shots as consolation for being stuck with Eddz. ;)

From what I've seen he struggles at golf full stop. :)
Just watch my swing and learn Eddz. :)
