Connection problem ..... ADSL

He Guy's ... got a prob here .. listen up :

last saturday i have got a ADSL connection ... my modem is a speed touch USB, the prob is the USB bus ....

every time when i am going to play Half-life or download some things from the web then my speed touch USB modem is going to shutdown and offcourse the led's are going out too, so then i have to reboot my system and then it works again, but only when (as i said before) i play Half-Life or download some things from the web then the modem will shutdown again.

i've spoken to people of my ISP and MXStream and they say that its my VIA chipset and my USB modem who are having conflicts with each other.

i have downloaded the latest VIA drivers and also the latest drivers for my USB modem but this won't help.

so if anyone has got an idea or has have got the same problem, then post message ...plz

btw: here are my specs
MSI KT7 Turbo
AMD Athlon 1000 Mhz

there is a via usb patch afaik (no idea where to get it.. i dont have a via chipset)

he could try that and buy (£15) a USB powered hub (internal or external.. but make sure it plugs into the psu or plug) as that takes the pressure off the mobo and also means its powered by the psu directly and not powered through the mobo (ie. chipset)

either fiddle with all that or buy an internal pci adsl modem

its strange.

via chipsets are actually one of the best general chipsets around

but its a shame that lately theyve bin having soooooo many compatability errors

(bit like my old voodoo5 ;) lol)

The problem affected one specific via chipset (one of the earlier chipsets to cope with a FSB of 133MHz and ATA100Mbit/s). It commonly effected the Asus A7V KT133A mobo which used the chip (not sure which other mobo's as I only use Asus).

I bought one of these mobo's just as they came out and before the USB problem was known (or at least addmited to by Via) and spent weeks trying to get USB to work. in the end i sent the mobo back and it was replaced.

If the USB patch does not work, then try the powered hub (didn;t work for me ;(). You can also try updating your mobo to the latest Bios as this can sometimes clear the prob; otherwise send it back and get a replacement.
