Just so you won't get panicked by the 'not happy unless cpu is at -20c crowd'

66 isn't actually too hot. The Athlon is specced to run at up to 90 degrees C. Your CPU is under no danger and will not explode.

However, CPUs run much better at lower temperatures due to a little thing called the laws of physics (conductivity is increased at lower temperatures due to increased density) so if you don't mind shelling out for better cooling, do that.

Otherwise, don't worry too much about it. When it gets to 80 or so . . then maybe i'd start worrying.

however the automatic shutdown danger temperature for most mobos IS 70degrees. so 66 too high!

if your pute runs oki then i wouldnt worry 'too' much, just get a better heatsink/fan as adviced. but from personal experience anything over 60 and my chip starts restarting my pute and locking up etc...

id also recommend an exhaust blower (aids the airflow in the case) even after getting a new heatsink and fan my 1.4ghz tbird was running at 55degrees. i added the blower (to the other side of my gfx card so i wouldnt have thought it would have made a big diff) and it immediately knocked 11degrees off my cpu temp

You want at least one fan taking air into the case and one taking air out. No point having trying to suck the hot air out when there isnt any cold air coming in.

That 66c isnt probably the actual core temp of the cpu, coz the sensor cant touch the core that temp can be anywhere upto 20c wrong (depending on motherboard). So the core could actually be 86, which is very close to the max of 90.
(Hence the auto shutdown at 70).

I think most of that is right anyway.

A nice blowhole in the side of your case directly over the CPU + graphics card couldnt hurt anyway
